This franchise is “dead”, I said it in the introductory paragraph about F-Zero and I mean it. It is dead in the context that his original creator, Shigesato Itoi, thinks that would be “impossible” to make a new chapter of the franchise, based on that he doesn’t want to drag on the series and haven’t come up with another great idea. But that doesn’t mean that the series couldn’t keep going on. It maybe just need a little spark of creativity, besides, the development cycle of the games has been long and expanding, maybe in the next years we would get some news… or at least Mother 3 overseas ¬¬.
Anyways… In Smash 64 we got Ness and in Brawl we get Lucas, both of them with movesets that represent both themselves and their franchises as a whole (Alax explains it very well).
Characters of the Mother Group that might appear in the next game.
“Wait what?!” I heard you say that… But let me explain. When Sakurai was developing Melee, Lucas was meant to replace Ness as the Mother representative character, but because of the Mother 3 delay that idea was scrapped, then, in Smash for 3DS and WiiU Lucas came back later just thanks to the power of the DLC gods. So, for the next game there is chance that one of them won’t come back (or maybe both will come back)… Nevertheless, for me, there is an interesting option: Get a couple of representatives, maybe from the same game, or from two of them with completely different playstyles, in which both represent themselves and the great variety of characters and personalities of the series. Maybe this way someone in Nintendo might see the interest of the gamers in keeping the franchise alive. Sigh… I really wish there could be three characters.
Ness: Both in EarthBoundand the Smash series Ness is armed to the teeth with his Bat and Yo-yo and the PSI abilities of his friends. This time he could have his own PSI moves, like Hypnosis (Like Mewtwo’s Disable but could put enemies to sleep), Paralysis (Like a chargeable “area of effect” move that could inflict light electric damage, might work as a combo opener with), Teleport (as a recovery move), PK Flash and PSI Rockin’ (α and β incorporated to normal moves and Ω for his Final Smash).
Lucas: Like Ness, in Smash he has moves from his friends despite having interesting PSI moves of his own, like PSI Counter and PSI Shield (that could work as a temporally Franklin badge or like Megaman Skull Barrier), and PK Love (more than for his Up-Smash). He also has Buffing moves, like Offense Up and Defense up (that might work like the Buster and Shield Monado Arts). These might help to make him resemble the brave kid he was at the end of Mother 3.
Pokey: This Jerk isn’t just a bad neighbor; he’s become a menace to the whole world. Maybe he isn’t physically threatening but inside of his mecha-spider (Heavily armed Pokey) he is even scarier. This machine can release toxic gas (De-buffing effects or Poison Damage) and quickly Charge towards his foes, making him a literal tank.
Kumatora: She’s the one that uses the PSI moves that Lucas shows in Smash, PK Fire, PK Freeze, PSI Magnet and PK Thunder. So if she gets in Smash she could keep them. And as a taller character, could have better reach with her normals. And clearly, PK Ground might be a great Final Smash.
Masked Man: The tragic rival has an incredible psychic power, being able to shoot lightning bolts and use PK Love like Lucas. He also has an arm cannon, an electric sword and a jetpack. He seems to be prepared for everything.
Paula: Like Kumatora, she is the one that uses the PSI moves that Ness and Lucas show in Smash. But unlike her, she doesn’t hesitate in praying for help when needed, generating random effects to the combatants (like the Dark Emperor Stage hazard). She also could use her teddy bear to absorb damage (like the back shield item). Watch out for the frying pan!
Ninten: The first protagonist of the series. He could make his return to glory showing buffing PSI abilities, but no offensive PSI, relying more in his baseball bat to deal damage. He could bring some new weapons, like the slingshot and boomerang to pursuit escaping enemies, and use the 4th D-slip to run away or recovery.
